september 22 RSVP

On September 22nd, the SLO County Planning Commission will hold a critical hearing on the fate of the Phillips 66 oil trains project - and we need you there.

RSVP now and urge the SLO Planning Commission to deny the Phillips 66 oil trains project once and for all!

Last month, Phillips 66 asked San Luis Obispo County (SLO) to delay their decision on the oil company’s proposal to bring oil trains into its Nipomo Mesa refinery. Their reasoning -- they don’t think SLO has the right to say NO to the terminal project. Instead they want the Surface Transportation Board, an obscure federal agency created to handle railroad disputes, to be the one to decide.

But we know SLO decision makers have the legal authority to vote no -- now. This view has been backed by the SLO County Planning Department Staff, who write in their latest report that “A continuance is not necessary” and “Staff’s original recommendation to deny the project still applies.”

The risks associated with Phillip 66’s oil train proposal are too great. It would bring millions of gallons of toxic, explosive crude oil through dozens of California communities every week en route to the SLO refinery -- putting thousands of people in the oil train blast zone.

This is a critical moment in the multi-year long battle to stop oil trains in California. RSVP here to join us!
